Asia's leading destination marathon, the Laguna Phuket International Marathon presented by Nike will be held on 14 June 2009. The fourth edition of the event will start and finish at Asia's largest integrated resort, Laguna Phuket.

The course is virtually an out and back course for most of the way passing through Phuket's lush countryside, past pineapple and rubber plantations and through local villages and markets.

The event is a fun and family oriented affair with various races for all levels from marathon, half marathon, 10.5 K, 5K Walk and a 2K Kids run. A photo contest for runners and spectators that encourages everyone to submit their best snap shot of the day rounds off the activities on race day. The race course has water stations every 1.5 - 2 K providing water, sponges, electrolytes and fruits. Mobile toilets are placed at regular intervals and the course is marked at every kilometer.

A pre race pasta party on Saturday 13 June 2009, and a post race farewell party on Sunday, 14 June 2009 both hosted by Laguna Phuket are the culinary highlights of the event. There is also a two day race expo which hosts the registration and sponsor booths.

From its humble beginnings with less than 2,000 participants the event has grown to a size of more than 4,000 participants including 1,500 international participants from 43 countries in 2008 and for the 2009 event more than 6,000 participants are expected.
